Effective date: 30 September 2026
Pride Compass Australia is operated by Solway Web Consulting, trading as Pride Compass Australia, ABN 16 750 149 558 (“we”, “us” and “our”). These terms cover our website, directory, editorial content, listing services and event information. Contact us at hello@pridecompass.com.au.
1. Using the site
Please read these terms before using the site or submitting material. They describe the basis on which we make the site available. If you do not agree, please do not use our services. Where you submit material on behalf of a business or organisation, you must have authority to do so. Paid services also require agreement to the applicable offer or order; merely browsing does not create a paid subscription.
Our Privacy Policy, Cookies information and Inclusivity Policy explain related practices. These terms do not themselves constitute consent to marketing or optional collection of sensitive information.
2. A directory, not a venue operator
We help people discover businesses, venues, services, community organisations and events. Unless expressly stated otherwise, we do not own, operate, supervise or control listed venues, events or third-party services. We are not their agent, booking provider, ticket seller, insurer or guarantor. A listing or external link does not make us a party to your arrangements with its operator.
Inclusion, a paid placement, a claimed listing, an ownership description, an accessibility label or a “featured on” badge is not a certification of safety, quality, legal compliance or suitability. Verification refers only to the particular detail or process identified; it is not an inspection of premises, staff, licences or safeguarding arrangements. Paid placement does not purchase an endorsement or exemption from editorial standards.
3. Accuracy and changes to listing information
Listing information may come from operators, contributors and public sources. We take reasonable care in presenting it, but information can be incomplete, mistaken or out of date. We do not guarantee that every listing, map location, price, opening time, event date, ticket link, age restriction, ownership claim, accessibility detail or other statement is accurate or current.
Confirm important details directly with the venue, organiser or service provider before travelling, booking, paying or attending. This includes whether an event is proceeding, entry requirements, access arrangements, assistance-animal provisions and any specific support you need. A missing label does not establish whether a feature is available. Maps and travel information are indicative, not navigation or accessibility assurances.
Please report errors using the listing URL and details of the correction. We will review credible reports and make appropriate corrections, but cannot promise a particular outcome or immediate update. Nothing in this section excludes our responsibility where Australian law requires it.
4. Your safety at venues and events
A Pride Compass listing is not a promise that a venue or event is safe, inclusive in every circumstance, or suitable for you. Descriptions such as LGBTQ+ welcoming or community recommended cannot guarantee how an operator, staff member or another visitor will behave. A venue's characteristics or policies are not automatically those of an event hosted there.
You decide whether to attend and should make your own enquiries about safety, accessibility, health needs, transport, age restrictions and entry conditions. Follow applicable laws and the operator's reasonable rules. Do not rely on our directory as emergency, medical, legal or other professional advice. In an emergency in Australia, call 000.
Subject to section 13, we are not responsible for the conduct of third-party operators or attendees, or for injury, illness, harassment, discrimination, assault, theft, property damage or other harm arising from their conduct or conditions at their premises or events. This does not excuse wrongdoing by those parties or exclude any liability we ourselves have that cannot lawfully be excluded.
5. External websites, bookings and offers
Third-party websites, social platforms, ticket sellers and payment services operate under their own terms and privacy practices. Check who you are dealing with before providing information or payment. Links may change or stop working, and we do not control their content, security or availability.
Bookings, purchases, venue offers and event attendance arrangements are between you and the relevant provider. Questions about their cancellations, ticket refunds, eligibility, delivery or service should normally be directed to that provider. We remain responsible for our own paid directory services and for any obligations imposed on us by law.
6. Copyright and trade marks
© Pride Compass Australia. All rights reserved. Copyright in our original site content, editorial writing, graphics, design and original selection or arrangement of material is owned by Solway Web Consulting trading as Pride Compass Australia, or used under licence. Third-party photographs, logos, submissions and other material remain the property of their respective rights holders. We do not claim ownership of facts merely because they appear in a listing.
The Pride Compass Australia name and logo are trade marks used by us. The ™ symbol identifies our trade mark claim; these terms do not assert registration or authorise use of the ® symbol. You must not use our branding to impersonate us, suggest an unauthorised affiliation or endorsement, or mislead others.
You may browse the site, share ordinary links to its pages and keep a reasonable personal, non-commercial copy of a page for reference. Except for those permissions, our written permission, an applicable licence or a use permitted by law, you must not reproduce, redistribute, republish, adapt, sell, commercially exploit or systematically copy our protected content or substantial parts of the directory. Do not remove copyright notices or pass our material off as your own. These restrictions do not override applicable copyright exceptions or open-source licence rights.
7. Linking and the “featured on” badge
Listed businesses and organisations may use the official badge and supplied link code in accordance with our badge instructions. This is a limited, non-exclusive permission to identify their genuine directory listing and link to our homepage. Keep the badge unaltered apart from proportional resizing and retain the accompanying visible link text. Do not imply sponsorship, accreditation or a safety guarantee.
Ordinary links and this authorised badge use are exceptions to the copying restrictions above. We may ask you to correct a misleading use or remove the badge if the listing is removed or the permission is misused. We will explain the reason where reasonably practicable. No ownership of our branding transfers to you.
8. Prohibited and malicious use
You must not:
- Submit false, misleading, defamatory, unlawfully discriminatory, threatening or harassing material, impersonate another person, or make an unauthorised listing claim.
- Upload malware, attempt unauthorised access, bypass security or access controls, disrupt the service or place an unreasonable load on it.
- Harvest contact details for spam, stalking, doxxing, profiling or other harmful purposes, including inferring or exposing a person's sexual orientation or other sensitive information.
- Scrape, mirror, bulk-download, redistribute or build a competing dataset from the directory without written permission, except where permitted by law. Ordinary search-engine indexing of public pages in accordance with our published crawling instructions is permitted.
- Infringe intellectual property or privacy rights, misrepresent our relationship with you, manipulate verification or backlink checks, or use the service unlawfully.
We may take proportionate steps to protect people, data and the service, including restricting abusive access and reporting suspected unlawful conduct where appropriate.
9. Listing submissions and editorial review
You are responsible for having the rights and authority needed to submit text, images, logos and contact information. Obtain any necessary permissions from identifiable people. Do not submit private information for publication without an appropriate basis and consent where required. Tell us promptly when relevant listing details change.
You retain ownership of your submissions. You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce, format, reasonably edit and display them, and to allow our service providers to process them, to assess, publish and maintain your listing and operate the directory. This permission does not give us ownership or an unrestricted right to sell your material. Contact us about removal; we may retain necessary private records for legal, security and backup purposes as described in our Privacy Policy, and cannot recall copies already held by third parties.
Submissions and claims are reviewed before publication. We may decline, correct, defer, suspend or remove material for relevant reasons, including accuracy, rights, safety, relevance to the directory, misleading claims or breaches of these terms. Where practical, we will explain a material decision and allow you to respond or correct an issue. Urgent safety, legal or security concerns may require action first. Paid-service remedies remain available under sections 11 and 13.
10. Free, Freemium and community listings
A free listing does not require a paid upgrade. Claiming a listing helps establish authority to represent it; it does not itself grant Premium benefits. Changes are currently managed with the directory team rather than through public business accounts.
Limited Freemium for businesses includes the website link, phone number and short description while a qualifying, visible backlink is maintained and verified. The link must include “As Featured on Pride Compass Directory”; nofollow and sponsored links are accepted. Notify us if the backlink moves. If it is missing or cannot be verified, we may ask you to correct it and reduce the listing to its free features if eligibility is not restored. A backlink does not purchase an endorsement.
Event listings show the website at the free tier. Verified Freemium adds social links. Paid Premium adds ticket and official-details links for the paid term. Festival and programme listings follow the relevant link permissions. Paid venue promotions also remain subject to their venue membership, publication rules and any stated promotion limits.
Free Community Interest is a reviewed grant for eligible not-for-profit community organisations. It provides Premium listing benefits without payment, a backlink or a scheduled expiry. Approved community events receive full link access. The grant continues while the organisation remains eligible and the service operates; it is not a lifetime service guarantee. Please tell us about changes affecting eligibility. We will explain a proposed withdrawal and provide a reasonable opportunity to respond unless urgent action is needed.
11. Paid listings, renewal and refunds
Paid Premium is A$25 for the first year for the first 100 paid signups across businesses and events combined. Renewal is A$65 per year. After the introductory allocation is filled, new paid signups are A$65 per year. Mailing-list registrations and free or community grants do not count towards the offer. Confirm availability with us before paying.
Prices are in Australian dollars. We will confirm the total amount payable, any applicable GST treatment, the service included and the start and end dates before you commit. We will not add an undisclosed compulsory charge to an agreed price. Activation follows payment confirmation and the applicable listing review. There is no automatic charge or automatic renewal; renewal requires your agreement and payment. Future price changes will be disclosed before a new term and will not retrospectively change an agreed paid term.
Business Premium includes the fuller profile features described in the offer. A feature article, where included in the agreed package, is subject to editorial approval and appropriate commercial disclosure. Event Premium concerns the event benefits described in the offer; it does not automatically include every business-listing benefit. We do not guarantee rankings, traffic, clicks, bookings, sales, footfall or commercial results. Examples from other listings or the UK directory are not promises of Australian results.
You may choose not to renew or contact us to stop a service. A change-of-mind request does not automatically entitle you to a refund, but we will consider the work delivered and the circumstances. If we stop providing an agreed paid service for reasons not caused by your breach, we will offer an appropriate remedy, including a proportionate refund for an undelivered period where applicable. Suspension, cancellation or removal does not automatically forfeit every payment. Nothing in our cancellation or refund arrangements restricts your remedies under the Australian Consumer Law, including any right to cancellation, refund or compensation.
When a paid term ends, Premium features may be removed while a basic listing remains, or another eligible tier may apply. We do not delete the underlying listing information merely because a subscription expires.
12. Privacy and communications
We handle personal information as described in our Privacy Policy. Public listing submissions may be visible worldwide and indexed by search engines; keep private or sensitive details out of public fields unless their publication is intended and authorised.
Joining a mailing list does not create an account, a listing or a paid subscription. Marketing subscriptions have their own consent and unsubscribe arrangements. You can unsubscribe using the message's instructions or contact us. Necessary service communications are separate from optional marketing.
13. Australian consumer rights and limits on liability
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies a consumer guarantee, remedy or other right or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified, including under the Australian Consumer Law in Schedule 2 to the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth). This protection applies throughout these terms, including statements about accuracy, safety, availability and refunds.
Subject to those protections, we provide general directory information rather than an assurance about third-party services. To the extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for loss or damage arising from reliance on inaccurate or outdated third-party listing information, your dealings with third-party providers, or attendance at their venues or events, where the loss is not caused or contributed to by our own breach of a legal duty. This includes the third-party safety risks described in section 4.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access, or that every external link or file is free of harmful material. Use reasonable security precautions. To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for interruptions or failures outside our reasonable control. We will take reasonable steps to address faults within our control.
We do not seek to exclude responsibility for our fraud, wilful misconduct, negligence or another breach of duty for which we are legally responsible. These terms do not require you to release a claim for personal injury or other loss that Australian law protects. If an exclusion is not legally effective in your circumstances, the applicable law governs the remedy.
14. Corrections, complaints and rights concerns
Contact hello@pridecompass.com.au with the relevant URL, a clear description of the issue and any supporting information you can appropriately share. For copyright or trade mark complaints, identify the material, your rights or authority, and the action requested. For privacy matters, contact privacy@pridecompass.com.au. Do not send unnecessary identity documents or sensitive information.
We will review complaints in good faith and seek a practical resolution. Contacting us does not prevent you from approaching a regulator, consumer-protection body, tribunal or court, or seeking urgent relief. Do not use a directory complaint as a substitute for emergency assistance.
15. Changes, governing law and general provisions
We may update these terms to reflect changes in the service or law, showing the revised effective date. Material changes affecting an existing paid service will be communicated where reasonably practicable. We will not retrospectively reduce your agreed paid benefits or remove accrued rights merely by changing this page. Changes requiring your agreement will be put to you before they apply.
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, subject to mandatory rights and protections that apply elsewhere. The parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of courts in New South Wales; this does not prevent you using a court or tribunal otherwise available to you by law. If a provision is unenforceable, it is severed to the extent necessary and the remainder continues where it can operate lawfully. A failure to enforce a right immediately does not waive that right.
